Soup, Snails and Super Kid

We are having a canned soup collection to support the GEF (Grafton Education Foundation) soup or bowl. Each can collected equals cash to the foundation.  Our class goal is 26 cans in the next 2 days. Can you help?  All soup will be donated to a local food pantry.

We have added a new moon snail to our guppy tank.  We are busy observing the water snail.  We even noted a new baby guppy today!  What excitement in the classroom.

Ellie is our super kid this week.  We have enjoyed her special visitors.  We are getting good at interviewing those who visit us.

Schlitz Audubon Winter Wanderings

We had perfect weather for our field trip to the Audubon center.  While there we saw a skit about animals that hibernate, migrate and stay active.  We learned how animals survive in Winter.  After the skit we headed outside.  We had to find evidence of animals.  We looked for animal homes (tree cavities, nests, burrows), tracks, scat, dormant buds, signs of herbivores and carnivores.  Half of our class went to Mystery Lake and walked on the ice.  Others walked to Lake Michigan and saw ice volcanos forming. To warm up we came in for more animal learning. Thanks to our chaperones Mrs. Luft, Mrs. Rossi, Mr. Holloway, Mrs. Tonn, and Mrs. Berns.  Consider using your free pass to return to the Schlitz Audubon Center with your family.

Discovering Patterns in Books

There are many patterns in books- repeating words, question answer, growing patterns, shrinking patterns, ABC and 123 patterns. Pridictable patterns help us as readers. After completing our Discovering Patterns unit in reader's workshop we celebrated with our friends in Miss Lipes' room.

Happy New Year

It was nice to visit with Ava's family.
We worked cooperatively to create a glove. It was an extension of our shared reading story Gloves.
